Gardening for Birds


Many of you may be interested in how to attract birds of all types to your garden. In order to do this it is important that you have plants that are large. Trees and shrubs are a necessary addition to your landscape. Birds like to have a place to escape to if they feel threatened. If you have bushes and trees around your birds will feel safer coming into your yard and visiting your plants. You can even plant trees and bushes that provide fruit or seeds for the birds. Little leaf sumac, and choke cherry are two plants that provide good forage for native birds. Salvia and Penstemon also produce nice seeds that on which birds can feed. These plants also add gorgeous color to your flower beds!
